Born in 1976, Deniz Çobankent as a sculptor and mixed media artist lives and produces her works of art in Istanbul. The figurative language which masters the works of the artists taking form through contemporary materials depicts both the transformation of the city and the inner transformation of a human being by the medium of the urban materials regarding the city as well as those found from the streets of the city, Istanbul. The works represent the expression of a human being’s existential concerns related to the concepts of space and belonging with the help of the pieces of any space concerning the belonging. Those pieces consist of the construction irons of the city, remnants of walls or buildings and also the leftovers picked up from the street. They are combined together by means of pulp. While each work narrates its own stories, when the whole is taken into consideration, subjects relevant to collective memory, collective urban life style and stories of people appear within the scope of the artworks of Çobankent.
